Why should you drink beer out of cans vs. bottles? Why do beer lovers drink from glasses? There is a lot of confusion surrounding the brews we love, and it’s time to clear it up. Thanks to our friends at BrewDog for the great information! Check out their website for more awesome blogs.

Myth: Beer should be served ice cold.
Reality: The temperature at which you serve beer depends on the style of the beer.
Myth: You should only ever drink beer fresh.
Reality: It’s best to drink light beers fresh; IPAs and hoppier brews don’t usually age well. However, darker, higher ABV beers can age very well. They can develop new, interesting flavors with age.
Myth: Canned beer is the worst.
Reality: Canned beer can be the best! Cans keep out harmful light, prevent oxygen from damaging the beer, are environmentally friendly, and are light weight.
Myth: Beer is always bitter.
Reality: Some beer is guaranteed bitter, and some people love that. Bitterness can come from hops as well as deep malty flavors. But, you can find a wide array of sour, fruity, and punchy brews as well.
Myth: Beer should always be crystal clear.
Reality: For some beers, clearness and lack of haziness is a great sign. For others, a clear beer means it has been over-filtrated and has therefore lost most of its flavor. Also, some beers are intended to be hazy, sometimes from suspended yeast.
Myth: Bubbles on the side of the glass are a good sign.
Reality: Seeing bubbles is a sign that the glass is dirty. Bubbles cling to the side of the glass where there is dirt. Consider switching out and getting a new dishwasher.
Myth: Green glass bottles are cool.
Reality: Just like we talked about with the whole can thing, bottles let in harmful UV rays that can skunk your beer. Green is worse about this than brown glass.
Myth: I should drink beer straight from the bottle.
Reality: Pouring your beer into a glass will help you to get the best aromas and flavors out of the brew. You can better smell and taste your beer while avoiding any metallic taste from the can or from where the cap attaches to the bottle.
Myth: Beer is bad for you.
Reality: Okay, too much of any good thing is obviously dangerous, and we always want you to drink responsibly. However, for some people, drinking beer in moderation can help prevent weight gain in women, lower risk of type 2 diabetes in healthy people, and can potentially benefit women’s bone health.
