At College City Beverage we believe in doing our part to make the world a better place for all our families.
Recycling
We have over 10 tons of cardboard from packaging and point-of-sale and 6.5 tons of shrink wrap that holds packages together on pallets. We recycle ALL of it. Out of code product isn’t wasted either, it is used to make biogas which is used to power engines that create electricity, the leftover packaging also recycled.
Electricity Conservation
Our warehouse features LED motion lighting throughout so that if someone is not in the area the lights shut off cutting our usage by about 30% from standard lighting.
Since August 2020, we’ve been generating our own clean energy right here in Dundas, MN. Our 2,176-panel solar array now covers 53% of our total annual electricity use, producing over 930,000 kWh each year and offsetting more than 208 metric tons of CO₂. That’s the equivalent of planting 3,478 trees, taking 45 cars off the road, or powering 89 average American homes. Over the 25-year life of the system, we expect to prevent more than 5,200 metric tons of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere.
Energy Efficiency
The Controlled Environment Warehouse (CEW) set points in the winter are set lower than in the summer so instead of producing cold air, we use the cold air from the outside to chill water down. The water is then pumped throughout the building and the cold air is blown off the water to cool the CEW.
Water Conservation
We have a reclamation system in our truck wash that filters the water four times and is used to wash the vehicles. The water is then reused to clean our vehicles cutting our water usage from the city significantly.
Truck Impact
We are always looking for ways to reroute our fleet for higher efficiency to burn fewer gallons of fuel. We also feature fuel-efficient vehicles in our sales department.
