Brewery Feature: Odell Brewing Co
Odds are, if you’re reaching for a beer from Odell, you’re a longtime fan. This is a brewery that prides itself on standing behind its family origins and crafting consistency within each of its beers.
We spoke with Bryce Hanson, one of Odell’s Minnesota Brewery Sales Representatives, to get all the details on what sets Odell apart.
Who are you, and what is your favorite part of your job?
My name is Bryce Hanson, and I am one of 2 Minnesota Brewery Sales Representatives. My favorite part of my job is meeting new people and introducing them to our great beers. I thoroughly enjoy watching the reactions of people when they try our beers.
Tell us about Odell Brewing Co:
Odell Brewing, the 23rd largest craft brewery in the U.S., is a regional, independent, and employee-owned craft brewery. Since 1989, the culture of family and collaboration has thrived, fostering a brewery full of beer-centric people. It is this passion for beer that inspires Odell Brewing to create quality, hand-crafted, and innovative brews. Odell Brewing is committed to providing exceptional service to its customers while making positive contributions to their co-workers and community through its outreach and charitable giving programs.
What does a day look like for you?
Each day can be different, but my main goal is to keep growing our brand. I do that by gaining beer of the month in liquor stores and happy hour features at bars. I really just want to help out our distributor reps as much as I can. I know they have an extensive portfolio, so wherever I can make their day easier is a central goal of mine.
What is new and exciting at Odell Brewing?
We are always introducing new and exciting beers, but one of the biggest things is that we are now making wine! It will only be sold in Colorado to start, but maybe someday we can bring the greatness to Minnesota.
How does Odell Brewing differentiate itself in a growing market?
Well, one way is with us now making wine like I just mentioned. Another way is that we are always making consistently delicious beers. The consumer knows when they grab an Odell, it will taste just as good as it did the last time. We also stick to what we are good at, which helps us keep growing. We make the right moves at the right time, which could be a new state to enter, or a unique style of beer to brew.
We also have opened up a Taproom in the Rino district in Denver. We will be opening a second location in the Sloan’s Lake area in 2020. This has kept us in the eye of craft drinkers in this growing market!
How is each brew branded/marketed as an individual and as part of a while?
We market our beers and brewery as the Odell Family. We are proud of being an independent and employee-owned brewery. We still have the same great values Doug, Wynn, and Corkie started in 1989! It truly is a family feel. It doesn’t matter what State you cover, or if you work on the packing line, brew team, or warehouse, we all pull for each other to have success in your given role.
People know us for making great beers, but when people hear Odell, they first think of 90 Shilling Ale and IPA. We are also bringing new drinkers to know our beers with our very successful Sippin Pretty Fruited Sour.
