Account Feature: Sgt. Peppers
Rob and Julie Kinsky have owned and operated Sgt. Peppers for the last 10 year but have collectively put more than 51 years into the bar and grill. (No, they aren’t that old but they both were at Sgt. Peppers long before they owned it – heck, that is where they met!)
They attribute most of their success to their inspiring team. The staff at Sgt. Peppers has been around for a long, long time. Their employees are their family, and they treat them as such. Over the past 30 years they have attended weddings, funerals, graduation parties, and happy hours for both staff and customers.
One employee actually texted Julie last week and said, “Thank you for letting me be a part of the family. And for letting me make some money along the way.”
They can list every patron at the bar by name and they pride themselves on being an active part of the community. Customers not only come in for the legendary cheese curds, it’s also fun activities such as the balloon animals they provide for the kids some weekends.
“We always want to be a neighborhood bar and grill” says Rob.
Partnering with CCB has been great. They feel like they are part of College City’s family and have built personal relationships with the sales reps. “They are always there when you need them” comments Rob, “Their portfolio is pretty good, too.”
Jason Scherer, an on-premise sales manager at CCB says, “Every Time we go to Peppers we know we will get great food, great service, and Rob and Julie always make a point to stop over and say hi.”
As owners, Rob and Julie both do a little bit of everything. They lead by example and enjoy both cooking on the line and being on the floor. Rob says he’s hard-pressed to call this a job because it’s theirs to take care of. They like to show their 52 employees that they are as dedicated and disciplined to make this a great place to work. The low turn-around proves that it’s working.
Next time you’re in the area, we suggest you stop by for a $3 Budweiser during a Twins game and order the Philly Burger and Cheese Curds.
Sgt. Peppers also offers breakfast on weekends, a banquet room for your next celebration, and Rob and Julie will always put a smile on your face. Make sure to stop the next time you’re in Oakdale: 930 Helena Ave N, Oakdale, MN 55128
