Meet the Team – John Peterson
One of King’s of the Quarter for 2018 is John Peterson. He is positive, funny, and determined. He is very organized with a great work ethic. He doesn’t miss a beat and does it all with a great attitude. We caught John at one of his accounts to learn a little more about him.
Tell us about your position and how long you’ve been with CCB:
John is a Beer Consultant focusing on the highway 3 areas of Faribault, Northfield, Rosemount, Farmington, Burnsville, and Lakeville. He started with CCB in 1999 and then attended school at Mankato State University for Mass Communications, occasionally working days or on his breaks in between. He came back full time and has been here 3 years.
A typical day looks like:
His days start out by getting up early, hitting the warehouse, and planning out his day. John then drives to his accounts and reviews inventory, pitches new or exciting programs, and goes over game plans. He introduces them to new product that he feels would work well for them. Helping them understand why it would work well for them and their business is part of what he enjoys.
What is your favorite part about the job?
“The competition. It is fun to walk into an account and see what you can improve on, the incentive and friendly competition with other reps helps you strive to go bigger and better. It is also great to help your accounts achieve their goals and to be a part of that!”
What do you find most rewarding?
“Getting paid for winning incentives.” (He isn’t competitive at all.)
What do you find challenging?
“With the many breweries in our portfolio it’s challenging keeping up with the new great beers that roll out each week. I work closely with Ben Bakken and Der to find out more info on new releases and what they like about the beer. A lot of times I cannot try the beers so I’ll have to rely on them and sell sheets.”
What do you like to do in your free time?
“What’s free time? I have two little kids ages 5 and 7, so running around with them. Baseball starting soon which I volunteered to help with. We have a 5 year old Yorkie named Rocko, and in the summer my wife and I play sand volleyball and spend time at our parents cabin in Wisconsin.”
He is also in a band called Angry Fix, which is in the genre of punk and ‘a lot of loud noise’. It is a 2 person band where he plays the bass. He also carries stickers in his van for fans.
What is your favorite product CCB distributes?
“Budweiser. Also Mucho Mango or Fruit Punch by Arizona.”
What do you clients say about you?
Aaron with Froggy Bottoms says “He’s a good guy, we worked together at CCB. He is a great salesman, I can call him and he will go above and beyond!”
