Drink Responsibly
As a beer distributor, we know a lot about drinking. But, more importantly, we know a lot about safe drinking. Though beer is usually your best friend, alcohol can sometimes take a turn for the worse. We made a little guide to help you navigate safe and responsible alcohol consumption.
Why you need to be cautious:
- One in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in his/her lifetime.
- Car accidents are the leading cause of death for teens. One out of three of those deaths is alcohol-related.
- Underage drinking tends to occur in binge episodes.
- Long-term, excessive alcohol consumption often proves detrimental to health.
How to be cautious:
- Prohibit alcohol consumption under the age of 21. It’s the law for a reason, and it’s just not safe.
- Talk to your kids about safe drinking. As much as we try to prevent it, sometimes people under the age of 21 consider consuming alcohol. Be sure to educate your underage child about the dangers of alcohol. Parents are actually the greatest influence on their children’s decisions about whether or not to drink alcohol. And, when they’re old enough, talk to your kids about safe drinking. Check out Anheuser Busch’s Family Talk About Drinking for tips when you plan your family conversation.
- Always find a sober ride home. Driving under the influence is extremely dangerous (and extremely expensive when you get caught). Fortunately, there are several services that can help you out if you’re caught in a bind.
- Promote a healthy drinking culture. Taking shots with the goal of “blacking out” is not safe, healthy, or responsible. And frankly, it’s not very fun the next day either. Binge drinking is defined as bringing your BAC Level above .08 (about 4 drinks for women and 5 drinks for men in two hours). Try to keep your social drinking to a healthy level, and encourage your friends to do the same.
