What is there to do at a golf course in the winter? The Northfield Golf Club has figured it out: serve great beer.
Lucky for all of us, Northfield Golf Club serves great beer the rest of the year, too.
Northfield Golf CourseThe Northfield Golf Club is a unique account of ours because they work exclusively with us for all the beer at the bar and in their coolers. Why did they make that choice? Dan Dols, the General Manager, says, “We’re exclusive to CCB just because of the service. It’s a win-win situation for us. For example, with Joe Leahy taking care of our taplines, no matter what line goes down, it will get fixed in a timely manner, which is important for us–especially in the summer.”
College City Beverage has a long-time relationship with the Club, including sponsoring holes in tournaments, donating for events, and starting a Monday night men’s league. “It’s been a win-win situation for us for sure,” says Dols.
Northfield Golf CourseHow does the Northfield Golf Club select the beers they’ll have on tap? Dols says, “We listen to our members. Ben Bakken introduced us to the Stone IPA; we let the members try it, and they loved it. Alaskan has been a house favorite for years. People have also been asking for something a little lighter, so we introduced Stella, and people have loved that.”
Dols is also sure to take care of gluten-free and non-alcoholic beers for his members, relying on products like Omission, Stella Cidre, and O’doul’s. He says, “I pretty much called John [Peterson] and told him we had a member who needed gluten free beer, so he came to us with some Omission, and it was an Northfield Golf Courseeasy choice.”
“On the golf side of it, College City Beverage has a wide variety of canned beer that we can offer to our golfers, including Stone, Summit, Shock Top, and domestics. It gives the golfers a wide beer variety from one company.”
College City Beverage also delivers non-beer options to golfers and diners alike, including Arizona Tea and Sparkling Ice.
Some staff personal favorites are Stella Cidre and Shock Top, but Dols’ go-to recommendations are Alaskan and Stone because they’re often a new brand for the golfers.
Northfield Golf CourseIf you want to stop by the Club for a round, or just for a beer, Dols recommends you make it to happy hour from 2pm-6pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Golfers, drinkers, and diners of the female persuasion enjoy ladies nights on Wednesdays; men’s nights are on Thursdays in the winter, Tuesdays in the summer.
While the course is semi-private (meaning there are specific members-only tee times), the dining room and bar are open to the public at all times. Golfers can look forward to improvements on the course and in the Clubhouse in 2017.
